About Us

Meet founder George Theodore and the rest of our expert photography instructors. To be a member of this faculty, one must have a passion for teaching and these folks know how to teach. You'll get the benefit of their successes (and mistakes) and find that the only thing they take seriously is making sure you have a quality learning experience second to none and that you have fun too.

George, after retiring in 2002 from a successful engineering career, turned a life-long hobby into a full-time profession. Starting in urban photography as a teenager—mostly black and white—George finally got the "color photography bug" over thirty years ago and hasn't looked back. He now specializes mostly in landscape and travel photography and enjoys a little bit of macro work too. His photographic travels have carried him worldwide and he loves capturing not only the landscapes, but the people and a sense of their culture as well. Prior to founding this company in 2011, he was a part of the Great American Photography Workshops team for eleven years teaching tours and workshops.

A very early convert to the digital medium, he uses his background in electrical engineering to help bring clarity to the technical side of digital photography in a way that's down-to-earth and easy-to-grasp; and his art studies combined with sixty-five years behind the viewfinder can help you express your vision. Every now and then, he still does a little black and white and over the past ten years has developed a keen eye for infrared subject material too.

George is well versed in post processing software and enjoys the freedom to make image adjustments based on personal preference and impressions; but he stresses "getting it right" as much as possible in capture. George is passionate about teaching and enjoys sharing his experience as well as his well-honed technical knowledge all of which he sprinkles with a healthy dose of humor.

He is a member of the North American Nature Photography AssociationPhotographic Society of America, Professional Photographer's Association and is the founder of American Nature Photography Workshops. His work is represented by Danita Delimont agency.
