WINTER in YELLOWSTONE TOUR
February 11 - 17, 2018 Register now »
If you haven't experienced winter in Yellowstone National Park, it's a bucket list item for the landscape/wildlife photographer. First, it's pretty quiet; no big summertime crowds.
The landscape is spectacular and the wildlife plentiful minus any bears who are napping away. One year we photographed moose, coyote, bobcat, bison, elk, otter and red fox in just the first day-and-a-half and we didn't need an 800mm f/5.6 to get them. Most photo tours begin at the north entrance to the park. We have always preferred the south entrance to give you an opportunity to photograph the Teton Range in winter, So, for our eleventh time, we'll start our adventure in Grand Teton National Park where we'll photograph a mind-blowing sunrise - red against snow covered peaks - then stop at Oxbow Bend for a beautiful clean, white landscape photo with Mount Moran in the background. Later that day, we'll arrive at our Yellowstone lodging in time for dinner.
For the next three days, we'll be out shooting all day covering a wide swath of the park from Old Faithful to Yellowstone Canyon. Conditions permitting, we'll schedule a light-painting/star shoot at Old Faithful while it's erupting. Finally, we'll return to the Tetons for a wildlife hunt and one final sunrise.
Our lodging in Yellowstone will be at Old Faithful Snow Lodge: quiet, clean and first rate with a first class restaurant. Transportation will be by comfortable "Vanterra"snow coaches with a capacity of 14.
Here's what our tentative schedule looks like:
Day 1 Meet in our Jackson hotel for a couple of lectures and introductions
Day 2 Leave for our sunrise and early morning shoot in Grand Teton National Park
Meet our Snow Lodge transportation at Flagg Ranch
Day 3,4,5 Shooting all day at various locations thoughout the park.
Day 6 After breakfast, return to Grand Teton for a wildlife hunt - moose, bighorn sheep
Day 7 One more shot at a Teton Sunrise - end of tour.
This will be our eleventh tour over the past twelve years and most have been sell-outs even with as many as 15 participants.
