A 14,000-acre National Wildlife Refuge, Chincoteague is a small barrier island off the coast of Virginia and is a nature photographer’s dream. This unspoiled, diverse land of dunes, beaches, marsh and maritime forest provides habitat for over 300 species of birds.
Our mid-November workshop should occur at a perfect time for photographing a variety of waterfowl at this peak time of migration. The explosion of tens of thousands of snow geese is a sight to behold and we'll see Bald Eagle, Blue Heron and Snowy Egret. And, we might just get a glimpse of the famous Chincoteague Ponies.
The landscape in fall is adorned with the red and gold of maple, oak and sweet-gum foliage and the glossy red color of poison ivy in the sand dunes in abrupt contrast to the shoreline’s evergreens. Beginning and End of day views are absolutely glorious.
This trip is a must for both the landscape photographer and the birder. Come join us.
